Massage services

Unrecognizable therapist kneading muscles on back of a client during therapeutic massage.

Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused by repetitive or strenuous physical activity and trauma.

The application of sports massage, before and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.

You do not need to be an elite athlete to benefit from Sports Massage. In addition to treating and preventing sports injuries, it can also help relieve the many everyday problems such as repetitive strain injury, sprains, tension, and fatigue that we all experience.

Using a technique that is mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues, it involves applying either sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes or dry cupping techniques to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues. This helps to break up scar tissue that forms following an injury and reduces tension in muscle and tissue. It may also promote faster healing by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation.

Not sure what to choose? – don’t worry we can decide on the day which would be the most appropriate for you.

It’s worth noting that different sports massage techniques can have very different effects on the lymphatic system, however, the right sports massage technique may stimulate the lymphatic system, increasing lymph flow and lymphatic drainage.

This should help to relax and leave you feeling less fatigued; other benefits can include:

  • Improved circulation
  • Reduced DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness)
  • Reduced swelling after exercise or injury
  • Relieving or resolving acute pain
  • Improved recovery/healing after surgery
  • Prevention of oedema and lymphedema

Initial consultation will start with a discussion on the reason for your visit and to determine the causes and issues you may have. This may also include a range of movement and postural assessments so that treatment can be tailored to your specific requirements.

Following your consent, treatment will take place on a massage couch. You will be given privacy to change and prepare yourself for the session..

Because we work at a deep level releasing long-held tension you will often feel some instant relief straight after your session. Creating a permanent change in a tissue quickly requires techniques that, at times, can be painful. If cupping techniques are applied please be aware that residual marking may occur during treatment and can last up to ten days.

I will communicate throughout to assess your comfort levels. If at any point in time you are feeling uncomfortable, just let me know and I can adjust the pressure.

For the lower body, and the majority of appointments, loose running or workout shorts are required, to ensure that the full leg can be exposed.

Towels will be draped over you at all times to provide comfort, privacy and to protect clothing from any lotion/oils used during your treatment.

For ladies, please avoid wearing a sports bra. A regular bra is ideal and can be unclasped or removed once laying face down. You will always be given privacy to change and place yourself face down before any treatment begins.
