Ladies, just because you’ve entered a new period of your life, doesn’t mean that you have to stop exercising… Far from it! NOW is the perfect time to be doing it, as it’s proven that regular weight-bearing exercise and strength training, can:
- help build bone, at a time when density is normally lost; a key contributor to osteoporosis
- increase your metabolic rate, helping burn more calories when exercising
- improve your cardiovascular and general health, lowering blood pressure, reducing visceral (deep belly) fat, and improving immunity.
The problem is that perimenopause and menopause can impact the body’s range of movements, causing problematic aches and pains that can limit your mobility and affect both your physical and mental health.
A sports massage can help you recover your mobility, as it stimulates the natural muscle lubricants in your body, especially those between your connective muscles, and helps everything work more smoothly.
A sports massage will also increase lymphatic drainage, which is the removal of waste products from your body through lymph fluid helping reduce menopausal symptoms and increasing overall well-being.
Techniques that can work on the lymphatic system include compression, effleurage, and skin rolling and as the majority of lymph vessels are found close to the skin’s surface they are accessible even with light massage.
This should help to relax you, leaving you less fatigued; other benefits can include:

- Improved circulation
- Reduced DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness)
- Reduced swelling after exercise or injury
- Relieving or resolving acute pain
- Improved recovery/healing after surgery
- Prevention of edema and lymphedema
Having spent my early 50s, post premature menopause, thinking my next vehicle would be a mobility scooter, I’m now exercising 5 days a week, lifting weights, taking part in circuit training sessions, and aiming for a 5km parkrun all thanks to sports massage and yoga 🙌🏻
Can’t recommend them enough to anyone struggling with pain.
Good to hear Sandie! Keep up the great work and don’t hesitate to give me a shout, should you need any treatment along your journey.
